People who try to follow a diet should first of all track the amount of unhealthy food consumed, whereas with a healthier diet it is not necessary to limit oneself to eating. Such conclusions were made by scientists from the University of Minnesota and the Agricultural Technical University of Western Texas.

"Despite the fact that usually self-control is a struggle between will and desire, people can not fully rely on willpower. The best way to control your diet is to keep track of the amount of unhealthy foods that go into your daily diet, "says the research initiators Joseph Redden and Kelly Hows.

Some have enough restraint and restraint to stick to the diet, and some can not eradicate their cravings for unhealthy foods, such as sweets, cookies and other sweets. Do the former have such a level of self-control that they are able to withstand all the tortures of restriction and rejection of their favorite dishes? Or maybe they just get saturated faster?

During the experiment, volunteers who decided to go on a diet were offered to eat the dishes presented, some of which were related to healthy food, and others - on the contrary. Some participants were asked to count the number of swallowed pieces.

It turned out that the subjects, counting how many times they swallowed food, were satisfied more quickly than those who ate simply in pleasure. This also concerned those people who did not have a sufficient level of self-control and willpower in relation to food.

"People who limit themselves to eating and are on a diet should focus on the amount of unhealthy food they absorb. Monitoring your diet can become a very productive model of proper nutrition, because the root of success in a variety of diets is controlling your desires, "the authors of the study concluded.
