Green tea slows down weight gain, so it can be considered as an additional tool in the fight against obesity, according to a study conducted by scientists from Pennsylvania State University (USA).

Project leader Joshua Lambert and his colleagues conducted a study on mice. The animals were divided into two groups. The animals were fed a high-fat diet. One group was given epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a substance found in most varieties of green tea.

The results of the study showed that animals that received EGCG gained weight 45% slower than those that did not receive the tea supplement. In addition, the mice that received the supplement had almost a 30% increase in lipid content in their feces. This suggests that EGCG does indeed prevent fat absorption in the intestines.

It should be noted that green tea did not suppress the animals' appetite: both groups consumed the same amount of food, and they ate at any time of the day.

Scientists note that a person needs to drink at least ten cups of green tea daily to get the amount of EGCG used in the experiment. But, according to Professor Lambert, two or three cups of the drink will be enough to control your weight.

Let us recall that scientists recently proved the influence of central obesity on the development of bronchial asthma.
