Scientists have found that consuming sugar in large quantities disrupts the functioning of the human immune system. According to scientists from the United States, the risk group includes adults who consume coffee, candy, sweet drinks, and flour products every day. In addition to reducing immunity, all of these products provoke obesity.
There have been many studies in this area, which have confirmed the negative impact of sugar-containing products on the human immune system. In addition, the amount of sugar consumed significantly affects the mortality rate from cardiovascular diseases.
A research group of scientists, headed by Kwan Yang, analyzed three previous studies conducted from 1988 to 2010. All studies were devoted to assessing the health and nutrition of the American population. Scientists analyzed information on more than 30 thousand people aged 20 years and older. First of all, scientists paid attention to the amount of sugar in the diet (fruit juices, carbonated drinks, various desserts, candies, etc. were also taken into account).
As a result, scientists concluded that if the daily amount of calories from sugar is 10-25%, then the probability of illness and death from heart disease increases by 30% (compared to those who consume less than 10% sugar). If a person consumes more than 25% sugar per day, then the chances increased more than twofold.
The authors of the research project gave an example that if the daily diet is 2000 kilocalories, then when consuming about 600 ml of sweet soda, a person receives about 15% sugar. At the same time, another research project has proven the negative impact on human memory of products that contain a high sugar content. Australian scientists have managed to establish the cause of such an impact. As it turned out, after consuming such products, the concentration of sugar in the blood increases, which increases the risk of inflammation of the hippocampus - a special area in the brain that is responsible for storing memories, as well as cognitive functions. As a result of inflammation, memory and attention are impaired. These findings are confirmed by laboratory experiments on laboratory mice, as well as long-term observations of those who like to eat sweets.
In addition, when consuming refined sugar, the human body spends a large amount of calcium, which leads to weakening of the skeletal system. In this case, the likelihood of developing osteoporosis (brittle bones) increases significantly.
According to some data, the average person consumes about 150 grams of sugar per day. About 1 kilogram per week. However, it is worth noting that the human body does not need additional amounts of refined sugar, so scientists recommend monitoring the amount of sugar in your diet to avoid health problems in the future. According to experts, the share of sugar and sugar-containing products should not exceed 10% of the daily norm.
