Recently, Australian scientists have created a completely unique device, through which the process of treating damaged tissues, including bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and internal organs, will absolutely come to a new level. The uniqueness of the new invention lies in the fact that it is able to literally "finish" the damaged area. The device in form resembles an ordinary pen, which is "stuffed" with human stem cells, as well as growth factors. Thanks to this technique, the process of recovery occurs much faster not only on the skin, but also in muscles, cartilage and bones and on any internal organs.
A new group of developers called BioPen (bioručka), thanks to this "handle", as declared themselves invented, it will be possible not to carry out the procedure for the removal of damaged tissue, followed by the cultivation of new cells to replace the damaged areas in a specialized laboratory for several weeks. As scientists suggest, the process of treating complex wounds will occur in a few days. The principle of operation of such a "handle" resembles the work of a three-dimensional printer - the cell culture is a special biopolymer made from an extract of algae of a particular type. A special gel is applied from above for additional protection.
The device also has a special low-power UV light source, which, after spraying, begins to solidify the contents. Due to this, stem cells placed on the damaged tissue are reliably protected. The surgeon fills the damaged area with special "ink", creating a three-dimensional structure at the site of damage. After the cells are in the wound, they begin active growth, while independently turning into the necessary tissue - muscle, cartilage, bone and even nervous. After that, the processes of regeneration of damaged tissues occur at an accelerated rate, even severe wounds and severe injuries heal quickly and without any serious consequences.
Specialists said that their invention is quite capable of spraying not only stem cells and cell growth factors, but also other means that accelerate the regeneration of damaged organs and tissues. Currently, the prototype developed has been transferred to one of the hospitals in Melbourne (St. Vincent's Hospital), where a team headed by Professor Peter Chung will continue to work on improving the cellular material and optimizing the device for clinical trials that scientists intend to conduct in the very near future.
Professor Chung, head of the orthopedic department at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, where they continue to work on a unique invention, said that this type of treatment is perfect for serious injuries with severe tissue damage, for example after sports injuries, car accidents, etc.
