A report was presented in Yokohama, dedicated to the problems of climate change on our planet. As stated in the report, changes in the Earth's ecosystem will be catastrophic and irreversible.
According to experts, the average temperature of the earth will increase from 2016, and by 2081 an increase of two degrees is expected. Already in the next decade, scientists expect the consequences of global warming: very cold short winters, abnormal heat in the summer, and also during the day heat and cold can alternate. Spring and autumn will no longer exist in our usual understanding, air quality will deteriorate significantly, the acidity of the waters of the world ocean will increase.
On land, the temperature will increase faster than in water. Scientists expect that the warming process will be fastest in the Arctic. The level of the world's oceans will rise to 0.98 meters due to melting glaciers.
Frequent flooding will kill millions of people living on the coast, many species of fish and land animals will disappear, agricultural productivity will decrease significantly, which will cause hunger and lack of drinking water among the growing population.
As experts note, no region of the earth will be able to avoid this fate. By the end of this century, many people may die or be forced to move to less dangerous regions due to the threat of flooding.
The poor will be the least protected in the face of climate change, as the economy and supplies of water and food will be at risk. However, even more developed industrial countries will face strong shocks. Even if people make every possible attempt to prevent warming, the mechanisms that have already been launched cannot be reversed and will last for centuries. Experts are unambiguous in their conclusions: for all world politicians, the main priority should be measures to reduce emissions, and as a result, radiation, the main cause of climate change on earth, but this will require hundreds of trillions of dollars.
Although the report had a somewhat depressing, cold view of the future of humanity, experts still do not rule out a number of possible solutions to this problem. This report can prepare people to better adapt, if necessary, move to less dangerous regions and build a new world prepared for climate change.
John Kerry, the United States Secretary of State, noted that the report is an alarm signal for people that cannot be ignored. According to him, our society must act quickly and decisively, since our entire way of life and life itself are in great danger. Kerry also noted that inaction now means the rapid and inevitable approach of disaster.
It is worth noting that US President Barack Obama proposed a package of bills concerning climate change, but his proposals did not find adequate support in Congress.
The new report could help shape new legislation in 2015 to replace the Kyoto Treaty, which expired in 2012.
