A young scientist, twenty-eight-year-old Doctor of Sciences Olga Brovarets, has made a truly sensational discovery that could put a long-awaited end to the issue of the fight against oncological diseases.

Olga comments on her discovery as follows: “Ever since 1953, when Watson-Crick told the world about the discovery of DNA, light has been shed on the explanation of the problem of the formation of point changes, or genotype transformations. Such mutations were caused by built-in incorrect pairs. However, the question of how exactly they are formed and how this process occurs has remained open for a long time.”

Paired human chromosomes, called by specialists as "humped" chromosomes (due to their transformation within the environment), are capable of "misleading" the macromolecule of deoxyribonucleic acid and "integrating" into the spiral. How they do this, specialists did not know and did not assume until now. And only now the scientist Olga Brovarets has determined a number of the most important patterns.

The study was conducted jointly with the curator and project manager, Doctor of Biological Sciences Dmitry Govorun, who is currently 66 years old.

The disadvantage of the conducted research was that all the results and conclusions were obtained mainly theoretically, using computer technologies. In order to complete the experiment, testing the discovery with real macromolecules, more advanced technical conditions are needed, which are currently absent in Ukraine. However, a group of American scientists have already conducted confirmatory experiments using the appropriate technologies: the sensational results of the Ukrainian specialists were officially confirmed.

"The macromolecule of deoxyribonucleic acid - DNA - is a particle that carries all vital information. And when we understand how the modification of the molecule occurs, how mutagenesis occurs, only then will we be able to protect humanity from terrible diseases," - comments on the experiment V. Ilchenko, head of the Institute of Higher Technologies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Thanks to O. Brovarets and D. Govorun, Ukrainian scientists have become known all over the world. Last season, our specialists received the prestigious Scopus Awards Ukraine: they were noted in the position of "the best group of scientific specialists who achieved excellent results without joint activities and cooperation with Western scientists."

At such a young age, Olga Brovarets is not only the most promising doctor of sciences in Ukraine: there is already every reason to believe that she will become one of the likely candidates for the Nobel Prize in medicine.

Let us recall: earlier, Spanish scientists determined that cancer cells live at the expense of fat cells. Studies conducted on rodents indicated that blocking the substance that allows a cancer cell to receive nutrition from a fat cell can slow the spread and growth of metastases.
