By peeling an apple, you can significantly reduce the positive effect of the fruit on your health. Apple peel contains a record number of natural chemical compounds that protect blood vessels and the human heart. Apple peel contains a huge number of components that can normalize high blood pressure. This discovery was announced by scientists from the province of Nova Scotia (Canada), The Telegraph reports.
They explained that most people prefer to peel apples, fearing the effects of harmful substances that are used to treat the fruit in order to extend its shelf life. But these technological methods significantly reduce the health benefits of the fruit.
Experts conducted an analysis of the chemical and biological composition of the peel and pulp of green apples. During the analysis, the apples were subjected to a reaction with an enzyme that provokes hypertension.
It was definitely established that the fruit shell (peel) blocked the action of this enzyme many times more effectively than the pulp of the fruit. The reason for this is that apple peel contains 6 times more flavonoids. The effect of "apple" flavonoids turned out to be more noticeable than that of other products with a similar effect - in particular, blueberries and green tea. Flavonoids belong to a group of substances of plant origin, which, when they appear in the human body (enter the body with food), affect the activity of numerous enzymes and have found their wide application both in official medicine and in folk medicine as a medicinal product.
Medicine has proven the ability of flavonoids to regulate the permeability of vascular walls and improve their elasticity, as well as prevent sclerotic lesions.
Individual flavonoids are included in the composition of most drugs that reduce capillary fragility, for example, askorutin.
