Thermo Fisher Scientific - one of the leading biotechnology companies is a large world company, which is engaged in creating the newest laboratory equipment.
President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė opened a research laboratory based on the company Thermo Fisher Scientific, which invested more than 6 million euros.
In this laboratory, magnetic nanoparticles will be created, which will become the basis of drugs for HIV and oncological diseases.
To date, Lithuania is the only country in which to produce technological products of this level. Mrs. Grybauskaite noted that the work of Lithuanian scientists will help to open new opportunities for the world in the fight against serious diseases. The creation of the laboratory is the best confirmation that Lithuanian specialists are ready to use their full potential not only to solve global issues, but also to save human lives - the greatest value on earth.
The unique laboratory uses the most modern equipment and scientists have to develop an advanced direction in therapy - individual medicine. The products, which will be produced by the Lithuanian laboratory, will be used in different medical activities, and an individual therapeutic scheme will be developed for each patient. According to experts, the use of the latest laboratory developments will allow us to take the fight against cancer, autoimmune diseases, HIV to a new level and make them not only more effective, but also simple.
Lithuanian scientists plan to work with magnetic nanoparticles, with the help of which, in fact, cancer patients will be treated. Nanoparticles will be coated with antibodies, which causes active division of lymphocytes. Cells will be withdrawn from the cancer patient, reprogrammed in such a way that, after returning to the patient's body, the process of active destruction of cancer cells begins. It is planned that this approach to treatment will replace the radiotherapy and chemotherapy used to date.
According to the head of state, it is in Lithuania that innovative products are produced, and this indicates a high level in all aspects. Especially Mrs. Grybauskaite stressed that Lithuania has recently established itself as a country with a progressive economy, outstanding achievements in the field of science, creating the most advanced scientific developments used throughout the world.
Thermo Fisher Scientific was formed several years ago and now it takes an unquestionable primacy in the market of biotechnological developments. The company creates innovative laboratory equipment and consumables used by well-known research centers and laboratories for studying diseases, in particular, hereditary, infectious, etc.
The Thermo Fisher Scientific division in Vilnius employs about 600 people, and it is here that one of the largest private research centers in the Baltic States operates.
