On the eve of the New Year holidays, the results of the research of the National University of Jeju, located in South Korea and the Institute of Medical Sciences are very relevant, because scientists have discovered that asparagus can become a real rescue from a hangover.

New Year and Christmas - long-awaited holidays, and how here not to drink for the arrival of the new year? Unfortunately, not everyone knows the measure of alcohol consumption, and therefore the evening's fun ends in a headache and terrible state of health in the morning.

Despite the fact that excessive craze for alcohol does not lead to anything good, Korean experts say that asparagus can become a salvation and relieve a hangover.

The fact is that minerals and amino acids, which are present in asparagus, can protect liver cells from toxic substances and become a kind of "antipohmelinom" in the morning.

In the study, which was published in the journal "Food Science", the authors analyzed the composition of substances contained in young shoots and asparagus leaves, and also studied their biochemical effects on rat and human liver cells.

"The exposure of toxins to the human body largely neutralizes the extract of leaves and shoots of asparagus," said lead author of the study, Professor Kim. "The results of our study show how the biological properties of asparagus can help alleviate the hangover caused by excessive alcoholic libations, and also protect the liver cells."

Professor Kim notes that with the constant use of alcoholic beverages, the liver experiences oxidative stress, as well as the characteristic symptoms of hangover syndrome.

Residents of different countries have their own ways of dealing with a hangover. Someone, for example, drinks in the morning a pickle or a decoction, someone - milk before a party, and some "pour in" a large amount of water for the night.

"In response to the use of leaf extract and shoots of asparagus, we found a significantly increased cellular valence," the researchers commented. "This is convincing evidence that the biological properties of asparagus have a beneficial effect on hangover syndrome, facilitating it and making it not so painful. In addition, the number of toxins in the liver cells decreases.

But researchers from the University of Brown warn smokers that they suffer from hangover symptoms are much more difficult than non-smokers.

In the experiment, 113 students took part. The participants recorded how much alcohol they drink during the evening and how many cigarettes they smoke at the same time. Also, the subjects described the severity of the hangover syndrome the next morning after the party.

Damarisa Rohsenou, the lead author of the survey, says that those students who consumed alcohol in large quantities - 5-6 cans at a time, and also often smoked, provided themselves with a strong hangover. Their condition was much worse than those who do not smoke at all.

Alcohol and smoking are two bad habits that, when "meeting", catalyze the release of the dopamine hormone responsible for pleasure. According to scientists, it is this process that aggravates an already grave condition since morning.
