The immune system is an army that defends the body from the attacks of pathogenic bacteria. In order to protect the body from internal and external dangers, the immune system works clearly and harmoniously together with the tissues, organs and cells of the whole organism.
ILive prepared several interesting facts concerning the functioning of our immune system.
Blood and lymph
The immune system is a complex system that "feeds" on five liters of blood and lymph - a clear, colorless fluid that passes through all the tissues of the body. Together, these two fluids transport various elements of the immune system, so that the work is performed efficiently and clearly. Our immune system consists of skin, bone marrow, thymus, spleen, white blood cells, antibodies, hormones and much more.
White blood cells
Like knights in white armor, white blood cells come into battle with enemy invaders attacking the body. They have a powerful weapon in the form of antibodies, which perfectly copes with the enemy. Brave white cells live only a few weeks. Their amount in a drop of blood is 25 000. In case a person is sick with leukemia, the number of white blood cells can increase to 50 000 in one drop of blood.
Fever and inflammation
Despite the fact that inflammation and fever are far from the most pleasant symptoms, they are a sign that your body is doing its job well and trying to survive from the body pathogenic microbes, stopping their attempts at reproduction. If you do not get enough sleep, your immune system will be depleted, in other ways, just like yourself, and this will make you vulnerable to the attack of influenza viruses.
Sun and immunity
Exposure to sunlight on the body naturally allows vitamin D. This helps prevent many problems such as depression, heart disease and certain cancers. Sunbathing also works well for people with autoimmune diseases. A light-skinned person needs only 10 minutes of exposure to the sun to get the necessary charge of vitamin D. Too long exposure to the sun can have a negative impact on health, weakening immunity.
Stress loosens the immune system
Our immunity is capable of many things for us, but sometimes it can not eliminate the consequences of the frequent stresses that injure our body.
Laughter is the best medicine
Laughter is the best medicine, and there is some truth to this. The release of dopamine and other chemicals that improve well-being can help reduce stress. Twenty minutes of laughter per day can help keep the immune system in full combat readiness.
To stay healthy, we need germs
The intestine is filled with a ton of bacteria and other microorganisms that help us digest our food. But microbes outside our body are usually considered vile and disgusting. Some of them are, however, to stay healthy, without germs anywhere.
