The government of Bolivia obliged the country's operating divisions of corporations McDonald's and Coca-Cola to cease their activities.

The government of Bolivia obliged the country's operating divisions of corporations McDonald's and Coca-Cola to cease operations from December 21, 2012, teleSUR TV reported.

Foreign Minister David Chaukauka, along with President Evo Morales, explained that the decision "was made in connection with the completion of the Mayan calendar and will be part of the celebrations to commemorate the end of capitalism and the beginning of a new culture of life." Instead of Coca-Cola, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered mokochinche - a local apricot fruit drink. The authorities motivate the ban on the activities of corporations in that they produce products harmful to health and alien to the Bolivian culture.

In Bolivia, there are eight McDonald's restaurants, the first opened seven years ago. The country becomes the second in Latin America after Cuba, where the population is deprived of the famous fast food chain. To inform the public about the upcoming changes, local TV channels showed a documentary that tells why the Indians love fried guinea pigs and do not trust burgers.

Observers of teleSUR TV emphasize that Bolivia is the first in the world to refuse from McDonald's, which has already managed to take root in the country. For example, in Cuba, McDonald's never worked.

Last year, Latin America did not appear in the list of regions, which showed an increase in sales of McDonald's products. The leaders were Russia, France, Britain and Germany. Net profit of the corporation amounted to 5, 5 billion dollars.

Recall that McDonald's Corporation (official Russian McDonald's, in colloquial speech McDonald's) - an American corporation, until 2010 the world's largest chain of fast food restaurants. In 2010, the company took the second place in terms of the number of restaurants around the world after the restaurant network Subway. Included in the list of Fortune Global 500 2011 (403rd place).

Under the McDonald's trademark, as of mid-June 2009, there were 32,060 restaurants operating in 118 countries (including about 14,000 of them located in the US). Of these, a significant portion (25,578) was managed by franchising, so the assortment of restaurants, the size and composition of portions can vary greatly in different countries.
