With the help of a vitamin contained in milk, it is possible to control the work of mitochondria so as to live without obesity, diabetes and in perfect physical form.

Researchers from the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (Switzerland) report the amazing properties of riboside nicotinamide, which can be found in a variety of foods, from milk to beer. This modification of the vitamin nicotinamide has been known for a long time, there is evidence that it affects the activity of mitochondria. But no one undertook more detailed research concerning this substance.

In an article published in the journal Cell Metabolism, the Swiss describe the beneficial effects that the riboside of nicotinamide gave in mice. First, animals that were kept on fatty foods weighed 60% less if they mixed this substance with food. Moreover, the riboside protected against diabetes, which developed in mice with obesity. And even in animals that were sitting on a normal, not fatty diet, the drug increased the sensitivity of tissues to insulin. Secondly, the substance increases muscle strength: mice that received ribozide, became more hardy and generally acquired a better physical form. Thirdly, after eight weeks of taking nicotinamide riboside in animals, thermoregulation improved.

All this, according to scientists, is due to the influence of riboside on the mitochondria. Many metabolic pathways converge on the mitochondria: the rate of fission of fats and the level of oxidative stress depend on them. Those who learn to control mitochondria will receive the key to a "long and happy life", and researchers around the world are trying to find the means that would properly influence these organelles.

Perhaps the riboside of nicotinamide will become one of the favorites: the authors of the work believe that it can be used to prolong life; in any case, the results of some experiments on nematodes indicate this. As for the biochemical details, the riboside raises the level of NAD, one of the most important coenzymes in energy production reactions. It also stimulates the activity of sirtuins - enzymes, which are involved in the regulation of the mitochondria and which many call molecules of longevity.

In favor of a new miracle vitamin, it also says that he does not seem to have side effects. Researchers raised the dose of ribozide 10 times higher than what was needed for therapeutic action - and there were no negative symptoms in mice. It is likely that cells refer to it as needed, and excess quantities are simply stored without undergoing any dangerous transformations.

But there is one problem related to the ribozide - a purely technical property. It is very difficult to synthesize, but in natural products it is extremely small. It is known that the ribozide is contained in milk, but it is still impossible to determine its concentration there. The same with other products: most likely, it is there, but in what quantities?

In general, we drink milk and hope that scientists will be able to quickly and cheaply synthesize riboside nicotinamide.
