A team of scientists from the McMaster Institute in Ontario (Canada) and the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) came to the conclusion that the combination of aerobic exercise and strength training does not work. Conversely, such exercises will reduce the ability of the muscle to strengthen, so that the muscles do not grow, and the fat layer does not decrease. Until now, the effectiveness of training according to the split system has not been scientifically confirmed. This concept of training implies the implementation of only one type of exercise every day.
In the study of scientists from Sweden, healthy and energetic young guys and girls took part, who regularly attend the gym, but not professionally. At first volunteers were engaged in 45 minutes on a bicycle. And later did squats with weights. On the second day, these same exercises were reversed.
Canadian scientists tested the endurance of the body of elderly people. They studied cardiovascular exercises at a moderate pace for 40 minutes a day. The next day they did 8 different exercises in order to strengthen the muscles of the legs.
Both groups of scientists wanted to see a response to every exercise in the human body. As a result, it was found that the combination of aerobic and strength training has a much smaller genetic and biomechanical response in the muscles, compared to performing one type of exercise. However, scientists noticed that the effectiveness of training can be increased if you first engage in cardio training, and then perform strength exercises.
