At the state research university in Madison, Wisconsin, scientists said the danger of botox. According to experts, injections of botulinum toxin adversely affect the central nervous system, contribute to the formation of thrombi, however, scientists can not provide actual evidence yet.
Many scientists, physicians, pharmacologists have already criticized the statement of their American colleagues, calling it hasty and groundless.
Botox is widely used in cosmetology for rejuvenation and the safety of this drug has been repeatedly questioned by researchers from different countries.
This time, the "elixir of youth" decided to explore in Wisconsin and, according to scientists, botox can change its properties under the influence of organic compounds. After administration, the substance is liquefied, and the particles can penetrate the circulatory system and spread throughout the body. In Wisconsin, it is believed that Botox injections can lead to the formation of thrombi, but other studies have shown that botulinum toxin acts point-like, which is why its effectiveness and striking rejuvenating effect are manifested. It should be noted that the statements of Wisconsin scientists are not supported by any research and many scientists believe that the statement was made with the aim of discrediting the drug popular in cosmetology.
A number of specialists note that botulinum toxin is not able to penetrate into the blood, especially to provoke the formation of thrombi. The action of the substance is directed to the nerve cells of the muscle tissue, but not to the whole organism, after the introduction of Botox into the muscle, an exclusively local reaction is observed. Botulinum toxin in clinical practice has been used for more than 20 years, the study of the drug began in the 40s of the last century and was first applied in neurology and cardiology, since in studies the drug showed high efficiency in the treatment of increased muscle tone, in particular cerebral palsy. In the cosmetology the drug got a little later, when it became clear that Botox, in addition to relaxing the muscles, has rejuvenating properties.
Botox is still being used in neurology for the treatment of spasmodic torticollis, spasm and other muscle tonus problems.
Injections of botulinum toxin are made only by a specialist, since it is necessary to accurately calculate the dosage, the course of treatment and stab in certain places, otherwise, unpleasant health effects are really possible. Excess dosage can cause the lowering of the eyelids, forehead, immobilization of the face (the so-called "mask" effect) and as a result of psychological discomfort, but all side effects are associated with improper administration or excess dosage and do not adversely affect the whole organism.
In addition, botox is not recommended for use in cancer, any chronic, infectious diseases, poor blood coagulation, patients older than 60 years and up to 35 years.
In most cases, all complications after injections of botulinum toxin arise because of the non-professionalism of the doctor and the neglect of contraindications.
