In Australia and the US, scientists decided to find out who drinks more - men or women. To do this, they analyzed the amount of alcohol consumed in different countries over the past decades. As a result, they found that in recent years, women have become more alcoholic and almost equal with men.

So historically, men were more likely to drink alcohol, but now scientists have noticed that women began to drink almost on a par with men, especially this applies to young women. According to scientists, because of incomplete data it is impossible to establish the real state of affairs with alcohol consumption, but this work makes you think.

Such an unusual study decided to tackle the researchers of the State University of Australia and the University of Columbia (USA). As a result of the search for works in which the amount of alcohol consumption was studied in different countries, scientists selected more than 60 studies containing data of people from 1891 to 2000, some studies lasted more than 20 years. In the process of work, 11 basic indicators of alcohol consumption and risks were identified, which alcohol represents for human health regardless of gender. The indicators were divided into 3 categories: any consumption, problem alcohol consumption and alcohol-related risks.

Further analysis of the work showed that, over the years, the sex ratio changed, and women gradually overtook men in terms of alcohol consumption, but also women almost equaled men and related problems associated with excessive alcohol consumption (addiction, diseases, etc.) . Since the 1960s, the ratio of men and women in terms of consumption of alcohol has increased sharply, if before that ratio has dropped by an average of 4.2%, then by 2000, the figure had risen to 10.6%.

Specialists can not say what exactly influenced the fact that women began to drink almost on a par with men. According to one of the versions, the equalization of the rights of men and women could lead to this state of affairs. The researchers also noted that the work carried out clearly indicates the need to create and introduce programs to reduce the consumption of alcoholic beverages among the population (both among men and women) and to reduce the health risks caused by excessive alcohol consumption, especially among young girls from 15 to 25 years.

By the way, recently the international expert commission in the field of public health has published a report which says that alcohol consumption is a major risk factor for the health of young people in any country in the world and a new study of scientists confirms that urgent measures must be taken to combat excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages .

Another problem of our century is unsafe sex - among all the risk factors for life and health of young people there is the fastest growth, for 14 years 13th place it rose to 2.
