Influenza is the most common of infectious diseases. Influenza virus can be caught in any period of the year, but especially its activity is observed in the autumn-winter period.

To catch this "surprise" is possible through a simple handshake, a hug, a kiss and even at a distance of up to 2.5 meters from the source of infection, by airborne droplets.

"Influenza is a" contact "virus," says Dr. Catherine Garnier, a family doctor from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. - It can spread from one person to another, be transmitted through contact with objects. For example, holding a door handle or pressing the elevator button, a person can become an infection carrier. "

Undoubtedly, the best way to avoid this unpleasant disease is immunization, that is, vaccination, due to which a person becomes immune to infectious disease and acquires immunity.

However, some people believe that vaccinations that can protect their body from this disease are a waste of time and money.

For those who have not yet invented a reason for refusing vaccination, Dr. Garnier has prepared the following list of the most common and sometimes stupid reasons for not taking vaccines that protect our body from the flu.

So, the top 10 most unreasonable reasons to put yourself in danger of getting sick:

  • This year I feel just fine, and if so, then no infection will stick to me.
  • Vaccination is a low-cost procedure, so what's the use of it?
  • I'm not afraid of the flu. The temperature, pain in the joints, red throat and headache do not scare me, and in general, I never get sick.
  • And why not take a sick man and do not lie for a week at home in bed and relax from work?
  • By the way, these pretty masks from the flu, covering half of the face - the last peep of fashion.
  • If you get very sick, then you lose your appetite and you can lose a few extra pounds.
  • What's the difference? Anyway, there are no plans for my trip, so why not cheer?
  • I'm anxious to find out, but will the insurance company cover my expenses for treatment?
  • I went to the market and did not catch swine flu, so I have natural immunity.
  • If I get sick with the flu, I will definitely visit my distant relatives who I do not like. Why not share an infection with them, we are a family, even if they will be sick?

Here such sometimes there are absurd reasons which people lead, refusing to protect the health.

In addition, Dr. Garnier warns that the opinion that it is impossible to get infected from an influenza person, if he has already picked up the infection, is a myth. Most of the drugs that fight the flu are created on the basis of already known viruses, therefore it is not known which of the unexplored types of influenza a person is infected with. Do not take risks and stay away from the patient.

"Many people do not realize that they are risking their lives, perceiving the flu as a mild ailment and a runny nose. Every year, the flu virus in the United States only takes up to 49,000 lives. Especially vulnerable are the elderly and young children, so do not play with death, think well before you give up vaccination, "says Dr. Garnier.
