To meet the sunrise and sunset is good for the mental state, as the natural beauty and indirect feeling of the "rhythms" of the sun act on the nervous system in a soothing and relaxing way. This was stated by scientific representatives of the University of Exeter, which is in South-West England.
Researchers used the latest computer imaging technology to show urban and natural landscapes to 2,500 volunteers. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the most beautiful and spectacular images were those of sunrise and sunset. A little less, but still favorable impression made photos of rainbows, thunderstorms and starry skies. At the same time, participants analyzed not only their own emotional state, but also the price they were willing to pay to be in this or that picture themselves.
Researchers believe that all people subconsciously experience awe in front of natural beauty and immensity. It is about an emotional outburst, which dramatically and positively affects the mood and strengthens the general nervous background, which invariably and beneficially affects, including social behavior. Scientists recommend encouraging people to observe sunsets and sunrises, which is necessary to improve their well-being, general "wellness" in terms of mental health support.
Experts note that in life you do not need to pay extra for such treatment at all. It is enough to get up early in the morning, before sunrise, or plan your day so as not to miss the time of sunset. Such a regimen will produce regular and significant bursts of positive emotions and feelings, which will gradually but surely enhance mental well-being.
Indeed, watching the sunrise or sunset is a time-honored way of improving mood that many doctors advise turning into a healthy habit. It is optimal to look appreciatively at the beauty of the sunrise every morning and see off the sunset at the end of the day, which gives hope and inspiration, adds energy, brings grace and tranquility. The sun "paints" a natural picture that no even the greatest artist can repeat.
The authors of the study note that, unfortunately, it is sometimes very difficult or even impossible to see such natural phenomena, depending on the region where a person lives. If there are problems with observing the sun, then such pictures can be replaced by others - for example, to consider melting snow, shimmering sky during a thunderstorm, and so on. One of the authors of the study notes: "Most of the natural phenomena are rapid and fleeting, we rarely fix our eyes on such pictures. However, both in nature and in the urban landscape, the observation of such phenomena is equally valuable in terms of mental health.
