A group of specialists from the Bonn University (Germany) has discovered another side effect of Viagra, a world-famous drug designed to restore potency. During the study of the drug, scientists found out that sildenafil, which is part of the well-known Viagra, can be used as a drug for effective weight loss and even for the treatment of obesity. Such a side effect, which may subsequently prove useful, was previously unknown.
Specialists from Bonn have managed to establish that sildenafil not only increases the amount of blood flowing into a man's penis, but also affects the breakdown of substances entering the body. The drug prevents the breakdown of brown fat, which helps the body activate rapid burning and processing of energy. In addition, sildenafil does not allow white fat, which is not useful for humans, to be deposited in the body. Thus, it turns out that Viagra can be used as a means of promoting weight loss. Some of the scientists who took part in the study say that sildenafil can cause the conversion of white fat into brown fat.
In order to make sure that Viagra can be considered a legitimate weight loss drug, scientists conducted a series of experiments on small rodents. Initially, small laboratory mice were fed nutritious products in order to cause a significant increase in weight. After the mice could be called excessively fat, specialists fed the rodents Viagra daily in doses that can be considered equivalent to those prescribed to men. Despite the fact that the animals were overweight and had predispositions to obesity, taking the drug caused weight loss.
After analyzing the results of the experiment, scientists reported that the effect causing weight loss may be associated with the chemical properties of sildenafil, which is the main component of Viagra. The effect of the substance is that with its help white fat can be converted into brown, and this causes accelerated processing of food that enters the body. The rodents managed to lose weight significantly without moving and eating a large amount of high-calorie food.
Viagra is currently the most popular drug that is actively used to treat impotence. Its popularity is due to both its high efficiency and the fact that the drug is freely available and can be purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription. In addition, taking into account numerous studies of the drug, doctors have found more than one side effect that can even be considered useful. Some experts believe that Viagra can help not only those who want to lose weight, but also prevent the occurrence of heart disease. Despite the seemingly obvious and proven beneficial effect, scientists categorically do not recommend using a drug containing sildenafil to treat obesity. This theory seems attractive, but at the moment it needs additional research and confirmation.
