The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the draft Law “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine” regarding restrictions on the use of assisted reproductive technologies.

264 people's deputies out of 385 registered in the session hall voted in favor of the decision.

The bill establishes that spouses who are citizens of states where this method of using reproductive technologies is prohibited by law are not recognized as parents of the child.

It is also stipulated that the age of an adult woman to whom artificial insemination and embryo implantation is applied must not exceed 49 years on the day of embryo transfer. In exceptional cases, the age limit for a woman may be increased based on the conclusion of a commission formed by the central executive authority in the field of health care.

Assisted (surrogate) motherhood is carried out only for citizens of those countries where this procedure is permitted by law.

The conditions for carrying out assisted (surrogate) motherhood are the absence of a direct genetic connection between the child and the assisted (surrogate) mother, and a genetic connection with at least one of the future parents.

The right to artificial insemination and embryo implantation is exercised in the manner prescribed by law.
