In the northern part of the state of Israel, there are secret plantations of hemp that is completely unique in its properties. It differs from ordinary varieties in that it is not capable of causing a narcotic effect. But in this plant, its positive effect from a medical point of view is preserved.
As Zach Klein, head of development at Tikun Olam, says, the modified plant (hemp) contains around 60 or more cannabinoids. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most well-known because it has high psychoactive properties.
But, in particular, cannabidiol contained in hemp can boast that it also has properties aimed at combating inflammation of various kinds. Unlike THC, it does not attach to brain receptors. It is on cannabidiol that Israeli scientists decided to "bet". The result of almost three years of work was hemp, which contains 15.8 percent cannabidiol, and the concentration of THC (less than 1 percent) is quite insignificant.
This variation of the plant can be safely used to treat diseases caused by cancer, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Crohn's disease, stress post-traumatic disorder. So far, only marijuana has been tested on animals. Experts are hopeful of starting clinical trials in the coming months.
