The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined the final list of intimidating images that will become mandatory elements for the design of cigarette packs.

As reported on the site management, the introduction of such images will be the first change in the style of warnings for more than 25 years and "is a significant progress in informing about the dangers of smoking."

Earlier, FDA specialists developed 36 variants of graphic warnings for printing on packets of tobacco products. These warnings are photographs and drawings depicting the negative effects of smoking: tumors, tracheostomas, etc.

As a result of analysis of more than 1.7 thousand comments of the public, scientific literature and the results of a survey of 18,000 Americans out of 36 images, nine were selected. They are approved by the FDA and should appear on all cigarette packs sold no later than October 22, 2012.
