Technologies are developing at a rapid pace and what seemed like science fiction yesterday may become part of our real life tomorrow. Scientists say that in the near future medical technologies will allow a person to live for more than a hundred years, and artificial intelligence will be able to provide humanity with eternal life.

Professor Yuval Noah Harari from the largest educational and research center in Israel stated that in two hundred years humanity will gain immortality, and people will become like cyborgs (without human flesh or with an insignificant part of it). The professor also noted that such a step will be the most significant in the entire history of the development of life on our planet, and this is billions of years.

According to Harari, it is quite possible that within the next two hundred years, “Homo sapiens,” who has ruled the earth for over a hundred thousand years, will be able to transform himself, using special techniques to control living organisms, genetic engineering, or by creating cyborg humans, into an immortal being; in other words, a new species of human may appear on earth.

The scientist also noted that in all centuries man has strived for satisfaction, and the idea of creating new abilities with the help of genetics or innovative technologies will soon begin to be realized, especially since the achievements of science already make it possible to do this.

Hannah Critchlow, who works as a neurobiologist at the University of Cambridge, also believes that it is the computer that will give a person eternal life. This will become possible after scientists manage to create a machine that will be a worthy competitor to the most unique human organ – the brain.

Dr. Critchlow believes that man will be able to be part of the machine and this will become possible after the emergence of truly powerful computers that can process the human mind.

At its core, the human mind is electrical impulses transmitted between neurons, and, according to the specialist, in order to place a person's personality into a computer, it is necessary for the machine to be able to recreate all the necessary connections that are characteristic of the brain. According to Hannah Critchlow, if a computer capable of creating hundreds of trillions of cross-connections appeared today, then such a machine could well be called a full-fledged artificial intelligence.

She also emphasized that all neural connections without exception are important for the brain, and refuted the widespread opinion that the brain works only at 10%. As Critchlow explained, the human brain activates only those areas that are necessary to solve problems set at a certain time. If the human brain constantly used all its capabilities, the body would simply not have enough energy. The brain weighs approximately 1.5 kg, which is 2% of the total body weight, while it requires 20% of energy for normal operation, so if the brain works at full capacity, the "fuses" of our body can burn out. According to Critchlow, in the process of evolution, the human brain began to work at "low speeds", which allowed the entire body to function harmoniously.
