Nobody knows for sure where the notion of "hot dog" originated, but it is known that 1893 was declared a great year of "sausage in a roll".
The National Hot Dog Day was officially established by the US Chamber of Commerce in 1957.
In 1994, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council was established to study the quality of the product, tasting and advertising hot dogs.
Traditionally, members of the Hot Dog and Sausage Council hold competitions on the art of making hot dogs, proclaiming the four basic rules:
Persons over the age of 18 are not allowed to water the hot dog with ketchup;
A hot dog in a bun is not allowed to eat from a plate, but only with hands;
The seasoning, remaining on the hands, can not be washed off, you need to lick your fingers;
In no case can not put a hot dog on an elegant china, it's just incompatible with the concept of "hot dog - the national American food."
Statistics argue that recently the consumption of hot dogs has increased, and the average American eats about 60 hot dogs per year.
On the US Independence Day, Americans absorb about 150 million hot dogs. If you stretch this hot-dog chain, you can cover the distance between Washington and Los Angeles five times.
