Swiss experts have announced that they have developed a unique small device capable of analyzing human blood parameters. The device is unique in that it is implanted under the skin, from where it sends data on a person's blood almost instantly to an electronic device using Bluetooth or radio waves, so that in the near future everyone will be able to receive a blood test as a message to a mobile phone.
Experts claim that the invented device can simultaneously test up to five blood parameters, including measurements of the number of leukocytes, erythrocytes, measurements of the average volume of blood cells, measurements of the level of hemoglobin concentration both in the blood and separately in erythrocytes, measurements of the number and average volume of platelets.
Data from the device will be sent automatically via radio waves or wireless Bluetooth technology to a telephone, smartphone or personal computer. The inventors of the new device assume that in five years the analyzer will be available to every person who is at least a little "friendly" with technology. Using a thin needle, the device will be implanted into the intermediate tissues under the skin of a person in the abdomen, inner thighs or arms. The device will work continuously for 2-3 months, after which specialists will be able to remove it or replace it if necessary.
Similar miniature devices have been developed before, but now experts from Switzerland will assure that their device is the most functional. The new blood analyzer differs from those invented earlier in its multitasking, or more precisely, the ability to simultaneously test several blood indicators necessary for analysis. Before this, devices were developed that could only determine one indicator.
Leading experts who developed the functionality of the device reported that the device will be most useful for analyzing the blood of patients with diabetes or cancer. With the help of the subcutaneous device, doctors will be able to monitor the blood condition of seriously ill patients, as well as observe the effect of drugs during long-term treatment.
Doctors who tested the new device noted that it will be possible to continuously and accurately monitor the blood parameters of a sick person. This will help to get rid of ineffective or even individually intolerable treatment. The device will allow to refuse weekly blood tests, from questionnaires of patients, since doctors will be able to see all the necessary parameters on the smartphone screen.
To date, the device has been successfully tested on animals and experts say that the cholesterol, hemoglobin, blood glucose, and blood cell counts are true. The next step will be testing the device on people whose treatment requires regular blood tests and close monitoring by specialists. Once the testing is complete, the developers are confident that many clinics will be ready to implement the new technology and regularly use the device to treat their patients.
The inventors assume that the device will be of interest not only to doctors, but also to people who are interested in new technologies and monitor their health. One of the incredible functions of the device is that, based on blood indicators, it can warn of an upcoming heart attack.
