Recently, more and more people are paying due attention to a healthy lifestyle and, of course, regular physical activity. Scientists from the USA believe that strength training and sports can have a positive effect not only on a person’s physical fitness, appearance and spirit, but also strengthen their mental state and eliminate the likelihood of developing a brain disease.
American experts have found that running and cardio training help restore brain nerve cells. This fact can be especially useful for those people whose nerve cells have been destroyed by the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs.
Scientists from the University of Colorado, which is located in the United States, conducted a small study in which sixty volunteers took part. Before the experiment, doctors surveyed the participants and found out how often they consumed alcoholic beverages and whether they exercised (if the answer was positive, the scientists were interested in the intensity of training and regularity). After the questionnaire and survey, doctors analyzed the health of each participant in the experiment and determined the relationship between alcohol consumption, physical activity and general health. According to experts, changes in brain cells, as well as its performance, may depend on alcohol consumption, as well as on sports training.
The head of the study claims that the recent experiment proves the existence of a connection between brain performance, sports and bad habits. Regular exercise and avoiding alcohol will ensure brain health and restoration of white matter. White matter fibers are responsible for coordination and transmission of brain signals. People who abuse alcohol have impaired coordination, as well as cognitive function. American researchers have proven the possibility of restoring brain cells responsible for transmitting brain signals. Doctors are confident that nerve cells can be restored by regularly visiting the gym and intense physical exercise. Not all scientists agree with this statement. For example, representatives
University of California believe that medicine does not currently have sufficient evidence of the above-mentioned pattern. Psychiatrists from California do not deny that sports activities have a positive effect on human health, but are very skeptical about the claims about the possibility of restoring nerve cells. Many of them adhere to the theory that brain cells are not subject to restoration, so if nerve cells were destroyed or damaged due to alcohol abuse, restoration is not possible.
In the near future, American scientists plan to conduct a series of studies that will help prove the possibility of restoring brain cells through physical exercise.
