Doctors in the United States have added to the list of diseases that nicotine can cause. As a result of recent studies, doctors report that smoking can cause blindness, impotence, colon cancer, liver cancer, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and infertility.

The report by the US Surgeon General Boris Lushnyak states that today's cigarettes are more likely to cause lung cancer than they were half a century ago. Today, smokers have a higher chance of getting lung cancer, although people currently smoke an order of magnitude fewer cigarettes per day. B. Lushnyak also voiced a list of diseases that modern cigarettes can cause: malignant neoplasms of the colon, liver, age-related manicular degeneration (vision problems), diabetes.

In addition, smokers risk getting serious diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, impotence, tuberculosis, decreased immunity, for women smoking is dangerous due to infertility and breast cancer. The report also mentioned the risk for passive smokers, who are at risk of stroke.

Boris Lushnyak noted that this year, almost 500 thousand people are expected to die from various diseases caused by nicotine. Every day, more than three thousand people try smoking for the first time. In addition, according to the chief sanitary doctor of America, the latest fads in the smoking culture, in particular the emergence of electronic cigarettes, which reinforce the false opinion in people's minds that this method of smoking does not pose a health risk. Scientists have already managed to prove that an electronic cigarette is no less dangerous than a regular one. A substitute for tobacco drugs poses a direct threat to the human body. Nicotine, which is part of an electronic cigarette, is not associated with smoke, but with water vapor. The substance is perceived by the body as natural, which leads to the fact that the body absorbs nicotine more easily. In addition, a smoker regularly inhales harmful toxic substances emitted by a heating cartridge included in the design of an electronic cigarette.

B. Lushnya also warned the society that if no attempts are made to change the current situation, then more than 5 million current children and teenagers in the future, already in adulthood, may die from many diseases caused by smoking. Currently, about 18% of the population smokes in the United States, compared to 1964 (since the first such report), the number of smokers was at the level of 42%. In Russia, according to statistics, more than 80% of the population smokes, including both men and women. Also, over 400 thousand people die annually from the consequences of smoking. According to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of smoking among the adult population varies around the world. The most "smoking" countries that entered the top ten are Herzegovina and Bosnia, Mongolia, Namibia, Nauru, Romania, Guinea, Yemen, Kenya, Turkey, Principe and Sao Tome.
