Data from the World Health Organization report that more than 350 million people have hearing problems and are disabled due to this. But experts argue that the latest research has shown the possibility of preventing hearing loss in more than half of the cases that occur. On March 3, a report was published in which representatives of the health organization reported that deafness and possible hearing impairment were really prevented.
The World Health Organization is currently trying to draw the attention of the representatives of developed countries to the report and work on the existing problem. The problem at the moment is large enough to deal with it at the level of small organizations or individual communities for the protection of hearing health.
Scientists believe that half the cases of hearing loss are the minimum number of possible cases that could be prevented. The number of people who have problems with hearing and ear health is growing every year. At the moment, statistics say that since 2004, the total number of deaf people and people with hearing loss in the world has increased by almost 100 million (in 2004, about 270 million people with poor hearing were registered, in 2012 the figure increased to 360 million).
The main cause of hearing problems is that as people age, they experience a gradual loss of hearing, with age this problem is usually aggravated and the process is considered irretrievable. Every third person who is older than 67 years has hearing problems, and hearing aids, unfortunately, are not always able to solve the problem completely. The hearing aid is not always accessible to the elderly person and in most cases it is able to solve only 20% of the problems that arise as a result of hearing loss.
Many people do not use hearing aids because of constraints or complexes that appear soon with hearing loss. People who start to hear badly because of age or because of another reason most often do not recognize this fact, as they are afraid to be called weak-minded or people with disabilities. In such cases, patients prefer to hide the presence of a problem and pretend that everything is in order, which can only cause premature hearing deterioration.
Doctors believe that a properly selected hearing aid can not only solve the problem with hearing impairment, but also prevent progressive hearing loss. Each hearing aid should be matched with a qualified technician and be purchased by prescription, similar to the points. Hearing loss with age is the natural reason that will affect each of us in the future. In addition to age-related hearing loss, there are many more reasons that can be called not natural, but acquired and that can cause hearing loss at any age, even in children.
Catarrhal diseases, as well as viral infections, which are accompanied by purulent secretions from the ears, can undoubtedly lead to complications and further hearing loss in the absence of proper treatment. Complications can even lead to such consequences as meningitis or brain abscess. Any discharge from the ear canal should be a signal to the doctor.
Excessive noise can also lead to a gradual hearing loss. If there is a need to constantly be in a noisy place or near equipment that makes loud noises, you should take care of the protection for the ears. Diseases such as measles, rubella or mumps can also affect human hearing, especially in childhood.
