Most people treat their profession as more than just a means of providing for their livelihood. Work allows us to demonstrate our talents and express ourselves, and it affects our health, both physical and mental.
Experts from the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago have concluded that the happiest people are those whose jobs involve caring for or protecting others, and also provide opportunities for creativity and ingenuity. Every person's life should be filled with meaning. For most people, the meaning of life is to be needed by someone.
Since work is central to people's lives, satisfaction with one's profession and occupation is a key component of an individual's overall well-being. Thus, among people dissatisfied with their jobs, only 15.7% are happy and satisfied with life in general. But 45.3% of respondents satisfied with their jobs are quite happy and prosperous.
The results of the study were obtained during the annual General Social Survey of the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago.
