Complaining about a job we don't like should, in theory, bring some kind of emotional relief. But what if you find out that these complaints are wasting a whole 106 days of your life?
The average person spends 14.5 minutes a day complaining about their job to friends and family members when they get home in the evening. This is the conclusion reached by British sociologists who surveyed 2,000 working adults for a furniture company. It turned out that for most of them, the thoughts they voiced about work have a therapeutic value - they help them, as they say, to let their soul out and feel lighter. About half of those surveyed (45%) are less relaxed this year than last year.
"The need to work and provide for a family puts pressure on people," says study author Christine Stoddart. "That's why topics about work and money play a key role in conversations. They are discussed in the living room, the kitchen, the nursery, and even the bedroom. Whatever job you do, it's important to develop the ability to completely switch off from the worries associated with it. For example, in the evenings, when you can spend time with your family and friends."
Young people and women are the least capable of such a "switch-off". Almost 50% of representatives of these two categories admitted in the survey that they were unable to leave thoughts of work outside the apartment. Oddly enough, the most difficult profession in this regard was a hairdresser - its owners find it hardest to forget about everyday work. They are followed by chefs and nurses.
Well, the most popular place for complaining about one's own work turned out to be the home sofa. Here, 56% of survey participants share their experiences. 16% complain while sitting in a hot bath. On average, a person needs 45 minutes to switch off after finishing the working day.
It should be noted that there are no ideal professions - each has its positive and negative sides. When choosing a profession, a person most often does not know (or does not want to know) about its objective disadvantages, judges it based on information from advertising, feature films. However, for people with different desires and internal resources, some difficulties seem insurmountable, while others are quite bearable.
Any objective characteristics of a profession, including its disadvantages, acquire significance in connection with the individual characteristics of a person. If a person has a predisposition to a particular disease, the profession can strengthen it or, on the contrary, prevent it from developing. If a person is ambitious and strives to build a career, then he should not choose a profession where all career growth opportunities are clearly outlined. Therefore, when choosing a future profession, it is necessary to correctly assess your characteristics.
