American experts have found that probiotics, represented by microorganisms such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria, relieve discomfort in hay fever and seasonal allergies.
A new method in the treatment of allergies was described by Professor Jennifer Denis, a member of the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Florida.
During the flowering season, hay fever is extremely common. The disease is caused by pollen, which enters the body through the respiratory tract.
With seasonal allergies, millions of people complain of eye redness, nasal discharge, redness of the skin and worsening of general condition. The sensitivity of people to pollen may be different: some exacerbations occur only in the spring, while in others, the allergy manifests itself throughout the summer and even in the first month of autumn.
The most popular drugs for seasonal allergies are antihistamines, topical corticosteroids and decongestants. But, because of the abundance of side effects, not all can use such medications.
Probiotics are well perceived by any organism, they do not have negative manifestations: they can be used to eliminate the symptoms of seasonal allergies.
Previous studies have already led scientists to think about the effectiveness of probiotics in hay fever. It was important to determine exactly what combination of microorganisms, which would be the most optimal.
According to the professor, "close to" a man Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria provide qualitative digestion and maintain a balance of immunity. In previous studies, other combinations of bacteria were involved, whose action with seasonal allergies was less effective.
In the new experiment, 173 patients took part with minor and moderate signs of hay fever. On other indicators, the participants were healthy.
Volunteers were arbitrarily divided into two groups. Representatives of the first group in the morning and evening took the drug with a probiotic, and the representatives of the second group were offered a "pacifier".
During the whole experiment, participants did not use any antiallergic agents - neither external nor internal.
As a result, representatives of the first group noted that they feel relief and improvement of their state of health. Patients were monitored daily.
Despite the fact that this experiment is still not considered complete by scientists, one can already talk about the positive effect of probiotics on immune defense. Useful bacteria activate specific cells, the function of which is to control all immune processes in the body.
"It can not be said that absolutely all probiotics can be useful for allergies. Now we are talking only about certain microorganisms - Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria, which are really able to withstand the development of hay fever. We believe that those who suffer from moderate seasonal allergies can undergo similar treatment, "the professor believes.
