Regular exercise of at least 150 minutes a week improves sleep and attention, according to a new study by scientists.
A study of 2,600 men and women aged 18-85 found that moderate physical activity for 150 minutes a week improved sleep quality by 65%, reduced the risk of developing restless legs syndrome during sleep by 68%, and increased concentration by 45%.
"We used physical activity guidelines established for cardiovascular health, but it appears that these guidelines may apply to mental and neurological health," said study author Brad Cardinal.
Recently, there has been a growing body of scientific evidence that regular physical activity may serve as a non-pharmaceutical alternative to improving sleep.
Many people cannot find time to exercise. They would rather watch TV or meet with friends. However, it is important to remember that physical activity not only improves sleep, but also has a positive effect on overall health in the long term.
