Midwives from New Zealand are indignant with the cover of the famous magazine North and South. It shows a hand that holds the baby upside down, as well as a bright inscription "midwives" (from the English "midwife").
Consultant New Zealand College of Midwives, Norma Campbell called the message of this publication "dangerous." A large number of midwives found this cover hideous and at the same time, in their opinion, it "puts them in a bad light."
According to the editor of the journal Virginia Larson, such a reaction is excessive. The college simply attacks the publication in order to divert attention from the topical material about the realities of obstetrics in the country, which is illustrated by this cover.
The twelve-page article raises rather existing questions, which deserve serious discussion.
According to the representative of the College of Midwives, Norma Campbell will not comment on this situation and is not going to discuss the content of this article in the near future.
