Scientists from Harvard University conducted a study involving 14,000 nurses and came to the conclusion that 15-30 grams of alcohol per day has a beneficial effect on the health of women over 50, Monica Ricci Sargentini tells readers of the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
"Women, raise your glass and drink to your health. At least once or twice a day, especially after age 50. Moderate and consistent alcohol consumption ensures healthy old age. This is stated in a study conducted by Harvard University. The habits of 14,000 nurses were recorded over 12 years. The results, published in the Public Library of Science, indicate that those who consume 5 to 15 grams of alcohol daily are 20% more likely to have good health than teetotalers. The percentage increases to 30% in the case of consuming 15 to 30 grams of alcohol," the publication writes.
"Women who drink a little demonstrate greater mental flexibility, better physical fitness, and are less likely to have heart attacks, diabetes, strokes, and cancer. But be careful: no excesses," the journalist emphasizes. "And teetotalers should not start drinking just to make old age go better." "The pattern we identified concerns women who drink alcohol in moderation," says Dr. Ki Sun, the study's leader. "For those who do not drink, we recommend regular exercise and weight maintenance: these factors will be better for them in old age than alcohol."
