British resource Lloydspharmacy Online Doctor conducted a curious study aimed at identifying the knowledge of men about their own anatomy and health problems, in particular erectile dysfunction and sexually transmitted diseases. In addition, the aim of the authors of the project was to educate and inform people about the importance of safe sex.
1,500 men took part in the survey.
The results obtained were surprising and even shocking. And all because half of the respondents are firmly convinced that the sex organs are located in the head, or rather in the ear. This despite the fact that 90% of representatives of the strong half of humanity assure that they can easily measure the level of oil in the engine and know exactly what their car is stuffed under the hood.
Only 6% of respondents were able to name common causes of erectile dysfunction and symptoms of diseases transmitted through sexual contact. One third of the survey participants believe that impotence threatens them if they wear tight jeans, and one in ten men think that sexual impotence can provoke too much masturbation.
When experts asked men to name the body responsible for the production of sperm, only 52% gave the correct answer. And every 12th responded that the ear was involved in this process.
"For many men in the world, there are only two most important things in their lives - the car and their sex life. However, if the machine breaks, then the chances of eliminating the malfunction in men will be much greater than to identify a potential problem with their own health, "said study lead author Dr. Tom Brett.
As for infectious diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, here, already lacking knowledge, and completely exhausted.
Compared to 2010, the number of sexually transmitted infections increased by 2%, to 426 000 cases. This is for some reason not surprising, because the level of knowledge of men about the mechanism of transmission of STDs is very low.
Judge for yourself, one in twenty respondents believes that dehydration is the main symptom that indicates the presence of infectious diseases transmitted through sexual intercourse. And many are convinced that infection threatens only those who change sexual partners as gloves. Nevertheless, just one contact is enough to get infected.
One in ten respondents assured experts that the cause of erectile dysfunction is nothing but hot weather and hobby for spicy food.
Experts sadly note that men's education in issues of safe sex and their own health is incredibly low
"We want people to understand the seriousness of the problems that arise against the background of diseases transmitted through sexual contacts. To reduce risks, they should be able to identify the problem before it turns into a serious disease, "the researchers say.
