By 2012, the turnover of the global medical tourism industry will reach $ 100 billion. This forecast was made by experts of the consulting company Frost and Sullivan, reports The Times of India. According to business researchers, in 2010 the turnover of medical tourism amounted to 78.5 billion dollars. Over three million people received treatment abroad. The medical tourism industry is currently growing by 20-30 percent annually, and, according to the researchers' forecasts, this trend will continue in the coming years. The largest center of medical services for foreigners for many years remains Europe and, in particular, Germany, which is considered the best choice for patients around the world, including the United States, Britain and the Middle East. It is followed by Thailand, India and Malaysia. According to experts, about 20 percent of medical tourists are residents of the Middle East. Only citizens of the United Arab Emirates spend about $ 2 billion a year on medical treatment abroad. As follows from the report of the international consulting company for strategic management McKinsey and Company for 2008, 40 percent of patients go abroad for medical treatment to get high-tech help. 32 percent expect a higher quality of medical services than in their country, 15 percent are interested in prompt treatment, and only nine percent are treated abroad because of savings.
