Every time you go out in the summer heat, be sure to wear a light panama or hat. And the undressed areas of the body should be well treated with sunscreen.

Physicians assure that sunburns are a particular danger for young people. Even a one-time, but a strong influence of ultraviolet can cause the development of skin oncology: not immediately, in 10-20 years.

Americans have a well-known slogan about skin protection in hot weather. It sounds like "slip-slop-slap" - "shirt, hat and cream." Americans believe that only in this form you can enjoy walking in the summer. By the way, this phrase was invented in Australia about thirty years ago: it was first used for preventive education of the population about skin cancer.

Professor Martin Weinstock, specializing in the field of dermatoepidemiology at Brown University, warns that even once a sunburn in childhood or adolescence can disrupt the cellular DNA and lead to melanoma, even decades later.

"If there is such a risk after a single burn, then what can you say about cases if a person" burns "regularly: the danger increases many times. And even in the absence of obvious burns, ultraviolet rays are gradually able to cause mutations. And the result of such mutations is still the same, "explains Dr. Weinstock.

Ultraviolet rays are especially unsafe for children and adolescents, although for an adult there is nothing useful in the influence of a carcinogen. Representatives of the American Association for the Study of Cancer Tumors have proved that the earlier a person received an ultraviolet burn (for example, in childhood), the greater the risk of oncology he is exposed in adulthood. According to statistics, skin melanoma occurs 80% more often in women who have sunburns between the ages of 15 and 20 years.

"This pattern occurs because a person, being irradiated at an early age, has more time to fully manifest cellular damage, directly related to cancer processes and other troubles," the scientist explains.

Therefore, parents should be given one piece of advice: it is necessary to protect children from getting sunburn.

"Summer and scorching sun should necessarily be associated with the use of sunscreen with the SPF 30+ filter and well-concealed clothing. Moreover, the cream should be applied and after returning from a walk or after a bath, "- recommends a specialist.

Do not forget that the place for rest is optimal, only if it is equipped with an umbrella or canopy. As a shelter from the sun, even a tree is suitable.

In addition, you need to explain to children the danger of a solarium. In many countries, this procedure is prohibited for persons under 18 years of age.
