Scientists have identified several effective methods that will help people maintain and even improve their memory, despite their age. Thus, the head of the Bekhtereva Institute of the Human Brain of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Svyatoslav Medvedev, believes that clear memory can be trained – and there are several simple recommendations for this.
- You need to try to remember information - for example, learn one quatrain daily. A more complex method is to stop using notebooks and try to remember phone numbers, names, dates. The essence of this recommendation is that the presence of notebooks, computers, etc. allows the brain to relax, and as a result, the information we need is perceived as unnecessary to remember.
- It is advisable to engage in some creative activity, since only such activity allows stimulating the brain. Here, creativity should not be confused with ordinary intellectual work. Creativity has no algorithm - it is complete freedom of mind, a flight of fantasy, which is a kind of "brain massage".
- It is no less useful to study foreign languages - precisely as a hobby, without forcing yourself. This type of mental activity is considered an excellent prevention of senile dementia - a person hears new sounds, says new words, remembers, combines, and - gets a result!
- It is necessary to create a proper daily routine in order to be able to get enough sleep. Scientists claim that during sleep the brain sorts the information received during the day and places it from the short-term memory sector to the long-term memory sector. But these processes occur only when sleep is deep and sufficient.
- If you like playing computer games, you need to do it correctly, choosing educational and "thinking" programs. Games with primitive plots, banal "shooters" and well-worn schemes destroy the brain.
- Of course, for high-quality brain work it is recommended to read books. The fact is that only books allow a person to "finish" the plot, mentally draw images, analyze the actions and characters of the characters. This helps to develop imagination and logic.
- And one more piece of advice: be socially active. It has been noted that lonely people are more susceptible to developing age-related dementia than others. Contact with society is very important for normal human brain activity. Communication is not only the exchange of information, but also participation in non-standard situations, fulfillment of social obligations, and prediction of other people's actions. Human interaction is a complex psychophysical phenomenon that can preserve and even restore the psyche.
Scientists insist that memory needs to be trained. This is especially relevant in the modern world, when there are a lot of devices around that “unload” the human brain. The question as a whole is not only to learn to remember, but also to “fish out” the necessary information from your own head when necessary.
