In Scotland, experts said that the intelligence of the wife affects the life expectancy of her husband, so if a man wants to live longer, you need to choose a companion life intelligent woman.
The study was conducted in the city of Aberdeen, where scientists observed the health of family couples of twins who are already married for quite a long time. As a result, it was found that husbands of smart women suffered less from degenerative changes in old age, men experienced less frequent cases of Alzheimer's and senile dementia. In addition to longevity, husbands of intelligent wives lived happier, in comparison with those who chose a less educated and narrow-minded girl as their wife.
According to the famous psychiatrist Lawrence Wally, it is the high intelligence of the wife that can protect a man from senile dementia, but how exactly the mind of a woman contributes to the happier and longer life of her chosen one, experts can not yet say for sure, perhaps to establish this will require a number of studies.
Specialists have long proven that the main defense against dementia is intellectual games, which not only protect the brain from degenerative changes, but also strengthen memory. It is possible that women with high IQ also trains their men's brains as intellectual games.
Summing up the results of their work, Scottish scientists noted with regret that the majority of men still pay attention to the appearance of the girl when choosing a life partner, and only then to her "brains", perhaps, for this reason, men now live less than women in the world . For women, scientists recommend developing their "inner world" to live long and happy life with their chosen one.
Another study conducted at Yale University found that people who read books live longer than those who do not like to read, and in this case it does not matter the type of literature - modern novels or classics - reading books on average prolongs life by 2 years .
The study involved more than 3,500 people from the age of 50, all volunteers completed questionnaires with questions about health and reading. According to the questionnaires, the scientists divided the participants into 3 groups - non-reading books, reading a little more than 3 hours and slightly less than 3 hours a week. As it turned out, women with higher education and high incomes are most fond of reading books. Surveillance of the health of volunteers lasted more than 10 years, as a result of which volunteers from the "regular reading" group had a lower probability of premature death, in this group people lived on average 2 years longer than those who did not read the book at all.
Scientists also took into account gender, health status, type of employment, age, race, depressive disorders, marital status, but the relationship between reading and life expectancy persisted.
Scientists noted that reading in general, whether it's magazines, newspapers or periodicals, is capable of increasing life expectancy, but still reading books remained at the first place.
