The World Health Organization reports that four additional cases of infection with a new type of coronavirus similar to SARS have emerged. Three of the infected people, one of whom died, are residents of Saudi Arabia, and two more infected people were found in Qatar.

Coronaviruses, a large family of viruses, were first discovered in the 1960s. The pathogens of this infection are called coronaviruses because of the formations that grow on the surface of the pathogen and resemble a crown in shape. These viruses can cause many diseases not only in humans, but also in animals - from common colds to atypical pneumonia. However, despite the similarity with the symptoms of atypical pneumonia, the new coronavirus has no genetic resemblance to it.

In 2002, it was the SARS virus that killed more than 900 people.

The World Health Organization is calling on all countries to continue monitoring the spread of severe respiratory infections. Until new information is available, the World Health Organization suggests playing it safe and not assuming that the virus is spreading only within the two countries where the first cases were recorded.

Scientists suggest that contact with animals could be the cause of human infection with this new type of coronavirus.

According to the studies, there is no danger of large-scale infection with the new virus, however, the World Health Organization notes that four cases of infection occurred in one family. Now experts are trying to find out whether the infected people will be the final carriers of the infection and whether the virus can be transmitted from person to person like HIV, which made an interspecies leap, initially appearing in primates.

Coronavirus manifests its presence by an increase in temperature and the appearance of a cough, it can cause pneumonia, and you can become infected through contact with a sick person.

The International Health Protection Agency says more research is needed into the virus to better understand its mechanism, and calls for any outbreaks of severe respiratory infections to be investigated.
