In Israel, a group of psychologists found that the human psyche, when constantly confronted with bad news, develops resistance to it and reacts less painfully over time. The experiments that the scientists conducted were based on the emotional Stroop effect. This kind of effect appears when a person undergoes a test of the same name, which consists of correctly naming the color in which a word is printed. In their study, the Israeli scientists used two types of words: neutral (street, house) and negative (terrorist, injury). The experiment showed that the subjects spent more time identifying the color of the negative words.

Psychologists wondered whether the effect would disappear if a person took the test only with negative words or whether its level would remain the same. Several experiments showed that a person who reads negative words for a long time eventually begins to show results almost the same as a person who worked only with a neutral group of words.

After the scientists repeated the experiment with a second group of volunteers, who were also asked to rate their own mood before and after taking the test, they identified several more effects. First of all, taking the Stroop test with only negative words worsened the mood of the subjects to a greater extent, in contrast to the group where the test was conducted with neutral words. Also, the duration of the test did not affect the person's mood, which the scientists also attribute to confirmation of their theory.

One of the authors of the study noted that it is possible to transfer the obtained results to reading the news feed. Scientists are sure that if you notice information about a tragedy (explosion, murder, etc.) in the newspaper headline in the morning, you need to read the article in full, after which the psyche will be less susceptible to any negative factors.

However, experts in their research focus on something else. As they state, Strop testing is widely used for various research and diagnostic purposes. If the emotional effect of perceiving a large number of negative cards decreases, then this can distort the results in some way. Experts are sure that the number and order of presentation of cards with words should be taken into account separately.

The scientific community has long been openly declaring a "reproducibility crisis" associated with the difficulties of communicating the results of psychological research, which poses a direct threat to psychological science as a whole. To solve this problem, work is underway in several directions. First of all, it is proposed to tighten the statistical criteria by which unreliable results are rejected. In addition, 13 different experiments were conducted, from classical economic games to relatively new ones, which were simultaneously reproduced by 36 scientific groups. According to preliminary data, the previously declared effects were indeed confirmed in 10 out of 13 cases.
