Doctors from Michigan (USA) reported that grapes are not only a tasty and nutritious fruit, but also an excellent means for restoring metabolism and preventing cardiovascular diseases. Some scientists are sure that with the help of grapes, even diabetes can be prevented. Representatives of the US Department of Health found out that grapes are a must-have product for those people who suffer from poor health due to metabolic syndrome, weakness, or for those who care about their health.
Metabolism is a set of chemical reactions that occur in any living organism and ensure the maintenance of life. These reactions allow organisms to reproduce, grow, and interact with the environment. In the human body, metabolism occurs between the intercellular substance and the cells themselves. The most important role in the metabolism process is played by enzymes (biological catalysts), which can reduce energy in chemical reactions and regulate metabolism in accordance with the environment.
Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of carbohydrate and fat metabolism, a significant decrease in sensitivity to a substance such as insulin, an increase in the total mass of fat. As a result of metabolic syndrome, the level of glucose in the body increases (due to insulin resistance). Experts reported that grapes contain a large amount of polyphenol, which is considered a healthy component. Polyphenols are plant-based natural antioxidants that have a positive effect on the condition and health of the body.
In Michigan, in order to confirm the benefits of grapes, a series of experiments were conducted on small rodents. The experimental animals were prone to such a widespread disease as obesity. The result of the experiment showed that the animals that ate grapes had a significantly reduced percentage of fat.
Some time ago, the so-called "American diet" was popular, one of the main ingredients of which the authors indicated was grapes. The idea of the diet was that a person, daily eating a sufficiently large amount of healthy fruits, got rid of excess subcutaneous fat in the area of the internal organs (liver, kidneys, heart).
For several months, small rodents were fed grape seeds in powder form and grape juice. After the experiment, specialists made certain conclusions that a diet with a large amount of grapes and derivatives (juice, raisins) has a positive effect on the condition of internal organs. Over three months, the animals that suffered from obesity significantly reduced the amount of fat in the abdominal cavity. In addition, grapes have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which helps rid the body of radionuclides. Eating grapes will help protect the body from the development of metabolic syndrome, high blood sugar and diabetes mellitus associated with these phenomena.
