The Catholic Medical Association of Germany (BKÄ) has come forward with an initiative to treat homosexuality using a combination of homeopathic and psychotherapeutic methods, the website of the weekly Der Spiegel reports.
As the publication specifies, the so-called homohomeopathy has drawn sharp criticism from the Union of German Lesbians and Gays (LSVD), despite the fact that Catholic doctors view their initiative exclusively as assistance to those who want it - there is no talk of any forced treatment.
The BKÄ website states: "Homosexuality is not a disease!" However, as one of the Union's ideologists, Gero Winkelmann, emphasizes, those representatives of sexual minorities who "feel sick, unhappy or in a dire situation" can turn to the Union for help and receive it.
In turn, the Union of German Lesbians and Gays considers homeopathy to be an ineffective method of treatment in principle. In addition, its representatives claim that they do not experience any suffering, so the proposal of Catholic doctors seems dangerous and even somewhat funny to them. "All serious experts," they say, "agree that sexual orientation is formed in early childhood."
The publication recalls that the World Health Organization excluded homosexuality from the list of diseases back in 1993. At that time, the Union of Homosexuals declared that the 19th century had thus ended for homosexuals and lesbians, albeit 90 years late.
