Fan of Formula 1, 14-year-old Matthew James of Wokingham (Berkshire) received from the boss of the team Mercedes GP Petronas, Ross Brown, a letter notifying that he will find a new bionic hand.

The boy was born without a left hand. For a long time he walked with a prosthesis capable only of outwardly imitating a human hand. Matthew wanted a more complex prosthesis, whose cost was 30,000 pounds sterling. This is a prosthetic i-Limb Pulse manufactured by Touch Bionics.

Matthew James decided to go directly to Ross Brown and ask him for a new hand. The boy was invited to tour the Mercedes plant, and at that time the F1 team contacted Touch Bionics. Both organizations agreed on the exchange of technologies that are used in machines and bionic prostheses.

In the new prosthesis, there are five individual motors in each finger. Therefore, each finger is able to move independently. The boy has already tested the prosthesis. Now he easily opens the cans and wears a cup of tea.
