A research group of Australian scientists made a sensational discovery: it turns out that the flowers of tobacco contain special molecules of NaD1, which help to destroy cancer cells. As studies have shown, these molecules act selectively, destroy cancer cells, while not damaging the healthy. In the future plans of experts to use this molecule to develop drugs from cancer of a new generation.
The discovery was made at the La Trobe Institute of Molecular Sciences in Melbourne. A group of biologists, examining the flowers of tobacco, isolated from them a molecule of NaD1. A feature of this molecule is that it seizes lipids and ruptures the membranes of cancer cells, while the molecule does not affect normal cells.
For a plant, this molecule plays an important role - it protects against dangerous bacteria and fungi that can destroy flowers.
During the experiments it was found that a new molecule, isolated from the flowers of tobacco, can greatly slow the development of a cancerous tumor in the body. As experts noted, most anti-cancer drugs used today have a strong negative impact on the entire body, causing severe adverse reactions. As shown by experiments, the molecule of NaD1 binds only to cancer cells, leaving the normal without changes. The discovery of this molecule can revolutionize medicine and help develop new effective cancer drugs that will have a minimum of side effects.
It is worth noting that another study conducted by French specialists revealed substances in the leaves of tobacco that help in the treatment of cancerous tumors.
Researchers have identified taxolite and taxol in tobacco leaves and as experiments have shown, these substances help cope with lung cancer and some other types of cancer tumors. As noted by one of the researchers, this discovery will help reduce the cost of anti-cancer drugs.
An interesting fact is that not only tobacco, but also some other plants possess anti-cancer effect. In one study of scientists from Singapore, it was found that regular consumption of green tea will help prevent the development of a cancerous tumor, as well as significantly slow the development of an already existing one.
According to statistics, about half of the deaths of men aged 35 to 65 years are associated with cancer. In most cases, the cause of death is cancer of the lungs, larynx, esophagus, pancreas, pharynx, as well as cardiovascular diseases. Most of the diseases are provoked by smoking and the Ministry of Health intends to continue the fight against nicotine addiction among the population.
Now the requirements for cigarette sales continue to be tightened, according to some sources, by the year 2016 the cost of tobacco products can rise threefold. In addition, it is planned to design the packs of cigarettes of all tobacco brands the same, which will visually "equalize" the trademarks.
