During the preparation of beer remains a considerable amount of waste, only 10% of the total volume of components is in ready-to-eat food. Basically, waste is the remains of grain crops, which are called brewer's grains.

The Californian company ReGrained proposed using beer wastes not only as feed for animals, fertilizers or for growing mushrooms, but also as a component in the production of food products (in the form of flour or whole grains for baking).

Every year, the brewing industry uses more than two billion kilograms of grain, and the thick that remains after brewing beer can be used by various companies, particularly manufacturers that use recycled beer waste for food production. Also, brewing companies, especially those located outside the city, often enter into contracts with farms and supply them with residues after cooking beer for animal feeding or as fertilizers for fields.

Breweries located in the city, due to the inability to sell all waste to farms (as there are few farms in the cities that can process beer waste), can use the remains of the thick for compost. But it is worth noting that beer waste has rare food properties, which was used by ReGrained.

The founders of the company Jordan Schwarz and Daniel Kurzrok decided to use beer waste as the main component of baking. The very idea of using beer waste for food production is not new, but ReGrained wants to use the waste products of the beer industry in an unchanged form, ie. To produce from grains or flour a healthy diet, in particular bars, as a result it turns out that a person can "eat" beer. The truth is that there will be no alcohol in this bar, which may upset the connoisseurs of this drink a little, but this will not spoil the taste of the bars.

Now the company produces two production options: with chocolate and honey and vanilla additives. Brewery waste from breweries located nearby is used for production. Also, the company's specialists develop new recipes based on beer grains (cookies, bread, muesli, etc.).

The waste products of the brewing industry contain protein, fiber, it has a unique consistency and aroma. This is what influenced the selection of the beer pellet as the main component for baking, explained Jordan Schwartz and Daniel Kurzrok, who also believe that using as a component what represents waste in another industry is quite an interesting and unusual idea.

According to the company's founders, they sought to use the waste of brewing companies as the main ingredient in bakery products. The company intends to produce a wide range of products - bread, biscuits, cereals, chips and other products that will increase the use of already used products.
