The Geological Survey of Canada has released a report declaring the country's vast geothermal potential for electricity generation.

As it turns out, reserves from geothermal sources exceed current needs by a million times.

The environmental impacts of developing the geothermal industry are not as great as those of developing other energy sectors.

The report's authors said geothermal power plants could soon replace other expensive electricity generation technologies.

Scientists are already recommending the development of about a hundred geothermal projects. Calculations have shown that the delivery of geothermal energy will compete with the cost of transporting coal within 15 years.

For your information, geothermal energy is developing at a very high rate in the USA. West Virginia alone has produced 18 GW. At the moment, preparations are underway for the implementation of two hundred new projects that will be able to give the country another 7 GW.

Let us recall that Iceland remains the leader in geothermal energy. This country completely satisfies its electricity needs with the help of hydro- and geothermal energy.
