The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved new rules for paying sick leave, during which an employee will be able to be sick at the state's expense for no more than five days. An employee's stay on sick leave for more than five days will be paid at the expense of the patient.

In case of providing a certificate of the patient's stay on sick leave for five days, the payment for the employee's temporary disability will be made by the enterprise in the amount determined by the length of service and deduction of this payment from the single social contribution. Today, it also includes the insurance payment for disability.

If an enterprise pays for a longer period of sick leave, criminal liability may arise. Currently, this is a preference of territorial divisions of the Pension Fund of Ukraine. Enterprise accountants must provide the pension fund with "expired" medical certificates and other certificates.

As practicing accountants explain, due to the latest innovations, the statistics of official illnesses of the working class have sharply "decreased". Workers prefer either to be sick for no more than five days, or "to endure the illness on their feet", going to work.

According to the Federation of Employers of Ukraine, a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers has already been developed, according to which sick days will be paid to an employee in the amount of 80% of his average salary, regardless of length of service.
