The host of many popular programs and a well-known journalist in the United States, Piers Morgan, avoided an oncological complication after heeding the advice of a mysterious TV viewer who sent him a letter. The woman recommended that the host urgently visit a doctor, and thus saved him from a malignant tumor.
Journalist Morgan is best known for filming an entire series consisting of separate episodes about serial criminals. After one of the shows, Piers received a letter: an unknown woman strongly recommended that he visit a dermatologist or oncologist.
The TV viewer indicated that her name was Gillian Nuttall, and that she had long been a fan of the journalist's television projects. She also noted that she herself has a medical education and practices the treatment of melanomas - one of the types of cancerous growths on the skin, and the most aggressive of them. Gillian urged the host to urgently diagnose a suspicious spot on the skin, which she managed to see while watching the program. "Pierce, you may think I'm crazy, but I noticed a spot on your chest area during one of the broadcasts," the viewer explained in a letter to the journalist.
As Morgan himself states, he was surprised by such words, and he did not even know whether to react to them. But, after thinking a little, the TV presenter decided that he had nothing to lose - why not really get examined? Pierce went to the doctor for a consultation. As the doctor later noted, such a decision turned out to be very prudent.
The dermatologist said that the famous journalist sought help in a timely manner, since the case really could have been fatal. The spot was a precancerous formation that had every chance of becoming malignant and transforming into melanoma. The doctor explained the need for surgery, after which the spot was removed.
Melanoma is considered one of the most dangerous cancerous processes in the skin. The number of visits to doctors about melanoma is growing every year. If such a process is ignored and started, the consequence may be the death of the patient - this disease is aggressive and develops quite quickly. In addition, melanoma is distinguished by an increased risk of rapid spread of metastases. It is this factor that most often leads to death. Every year, more than 50,000 Americans undergo treatment for this malignant tumor.
In the case of the British journalist, the tumor was detected in a timely manner, before it had spread deeply and into the lymph nodes. Therefore, the tumor was removed without any problems or complications.
At the moment, it is unknown whether Piers Morgan found a way to thank the attentive fan for her advice, which, by and large, saved the journalist's life.
The case was described in the Daily Star.
