Consumption of avocados and salads dressed with olive oil, increases the chances of women to successfully conceive during IVF. This conclusion was reached by the Harvard School of Public Health (Harvard School of Public Health). They believe that products included in the Mediterranean diet, improve performance more than three-fold.
The study showed that monounsaturated fats (found in olives, olive and sunflower oil, nuts, seeds) are much more useful for women who want to become pregnant than other types of dietary fats. Experts believe that monounsaturated fats, which are known to protect the heart, can improve fertility by suppressing inflammation in the body.
"It is best for future mothers to give preference to avocados and olive oil, which contain the greatest amount of monounsaturated fats," said the head of the study, Professor Jorge Chavarro. It was attended by 147 women who underwent IVF at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He found that those who consumed saturated fats (butter, red meat) had fewer eggs that were suitable for fertilization. The diet, rich in polyunsaturated fats, negatively affected the quality of embryos. In turn, the active consumption of monounsaturated fats increases the probability of the birth of a child after IVF by 3.4 times.
"It is unclear what biological mechanisms are at the heart of the association that we found, although the study was not very large, its results are worthy of attention and there is a need to continue the work," Chavarro said.
The study report was presented at the annual meeting of the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology in Istanbul. The work was supported by the American Institute of Health.
