American scientists have developed a unique drug for the treatment of schizophrenia, in addition, the medicine showed good results in depressive and psychiatric disorders.
Scientists said that soon the pill will help in the treatment of problems with the psyche, in particular, with schizophrenia. A new drug was developed by specialists from Vanderbilt University.
Schizophrenia is a disease of the psyche and, as scientists suggest, the disorder appeared in humans in the process of evolution during the period when a person had intelligence. It has been assumed that schizophrenia is a congenital and incurable disease and all the drugs that have ever been created have only reduced the acute manifestations of the disorder during periods of exacerbation, in addition, all medications of this kind have had serious side effects.
Over the past decades, many drugs have been created, some of them are quite effective, but they can not completely rid the patient of the disease. As already mentioned, such funds are quite hard for patients, and the course of treatment to achieve the best result is long, often after the withdrawal of drugs, severe symptoms return and the disease progresses.
The US Department of Defense agency is funding the new project and work in this direction has shown that schizophrenia develops as a result of excessive amounts of dopamine hormone in the body, which causes a feeling of satisfaction, pleasure. In the process of research, scientists were able to control the level of this hormone in the body of participants in the experiments and at this stage work is under way to restore cognitive functions in patients with schizophrenia.
Also, experts found that the drug is effective in treating other problems with the psyche, as well as depression.
According to the researchers themselves, the new drug will help to completely eliminate most of the problems with the psyche, it is possible that it will be used to treat military servicemen who participated in hostilities. Scientists suggest that for treatment the drug will be injected directly into the brain.
Methods of treating schizophrenia, scientists have been searching for a long time, last year, German specialists found out how to prevent the development of problems with the psyche. Studies have shown that fatty foods contain important elements that are guarded against problems with the psyche, and can also prevent the development of schizophrenia.
Such conclusions were made after an experiment involving 80 people, divided into 2 groups, one of which included omega-3 participants in the diet, and the other, the use of important fats was limited.
Results surprised even scientists - in one group, where participants fed unsaturated fatty acids from mental illness (schizophrenia, psychosis, etc.), only 2 people suffered, while in the other 11 people. This work, according to experts clearly indicates the relationship between the use of unsaturated fatty acids and the likelihood of developing mental illnesses.
